Allen grew up around Boston, MA and studied biochemistry and poetry at the University of Chicago. There, he studied bacterial membrane protein structure in Dr. Eduardo Perozo’s lab. He then moved back to Boston for 2 years, where he studied bacteriophage protein structure in Dr. Philip Kranzusch’s lab.
He is currently an MD/PhD student at Weill Cornell. In the lab, he will probe the structure and function of calcium and phosphate transporters in order to better understand various disease mechanisms. Outside the lab, he enjoys reading/writing, spending time with friends, volunteering, and exploring NYC.
