When I was deciding on my career path, it came down to a choice between my two passions, helping people and art. I found a way to combine both with medicine, and specifically, breast surgery. Every patient I treat has their own unique surgical needs, values, and life priorities, and we use them as a guide to formulate your treatment plan together.
Hello, I'm Dr. Andreas Giannakou, a breast surgeon with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. My first priority is to safely remove the cancer so it doesn't return. I use advanced surgical techniques, like breast conserving surgery, with the goal to maintain the natural shape and contour of the breast, as well as skin-sparing and nipple-sparing mastectomies when possible, to ensure that the final cosmetic result meets your goals. We have the team and all the tools to make this happen. My core purpose is to help you through your journey with breast cancer. I create visuals during our consultation to help you understand your diagnosis and aid in your decision-making.
After your surgery, I will continue to guide you throughout all the steps of your treatment. Here at MSK, we embrace an overriding mission to provide the highest level of evidence-based surgical care, while treating every patient with compassion and sensitivity. You can count on me to treat you as a person and not as a diagnosis. I want to help you get past this and get back to doing the things you enjoy in life.
