Get to Know Me

I’m an interventional pulmonologist who sees people with all types of lung or pleural diseases, both cancerous and non-cancerous. I regularly see patients with all types of cancer, especially lung cancer, and for problems such as airway obstructions or fluid buildup around the lung.

I have special training in procedures related to both diagnosis and treatment using minimally invasive and robotic techniques. I am an expert in the following types of procedures:

  • Endobronchial ultrasound, which is a minimally invasive procedure that help us biopsy lymph nodes and lung nodules.
  • Robotic bronchoscopy, which is a technique used to look at the airways or lung nodules using a small, robotic camera attached to a thin tube passed through the mouth.
  • Rigid bronchoscopy, which is a technique paired with other therapies and is used to treat airway obstructions.
  • Cryobiopsy, a minimally invasive biopsy procedure that uses a cryoprobe to freeze and test lung tissue from nodules or lymph nodes.
  • Medical thoracoscopy (pleuroscopy), a procedure that helps your doctor look inside your pleural or chest cavity using a thin tube with a camera attached.
  • Pleural catheter placement which uses a small, flexible tube to drain fluid from the pleural space in the chest.
  • Pleurodesis, a procedure that seals the space between the lung and the chest wall to prevent fluid buildup.
  • Tracheostomy, a surgical procedure in which an opening is created in the neck to directly access the trachea (windpipe) to help a person breathe.

I became a doctor because I was interested in science and anatomy. I was drawn to interventional pulmonology because I enjoy performing procedures and having a tangible, immediate way to help people feel better.

When I meet with a patient, I take the time to give them all the information they need, and discuss their options, risks, and benefits. I also take the time to listen to their goals and preferences for treatment. I always aim to find the least invasive approach possible.

I published the first research paper on robotic cryobiopsy for lung nodules which looked at the benefits of using this technique for biopsies with superior diagnostic results compared to traditional biopsy methods. Robotic cryobiopsy has now become popular because it can lead to earlier diagnosis and improved long-term survival for lung cancer if caught early.

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling and exploring New York City and its diversity of people, cultures, and cuisine. I love taking walks with my chocolate labrador in Central Park.
