Get to Know Me

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive training in psycho-oncology, end-of-life care, and geriatrics (care for older adults).

I have more than 10 years of experience in working with people with cancer. Throughout my career, I have seen people with many different types and stages of cancer, from diagnosis to post-treatment and end of life.

I approach each of my patients with curiosity and humility. Each person has a unique story. My collaborative care approach is grounded in:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Meaning-centered psychotherapy
  • Supportive psychotherapy

I use these approaches to help my patients understand and better cope with cancer-related stress.

I am also committed to training and mentoring junior faculty, fellows, graduate students, and clinical research coordinators.

As a member of the Psychotherapy and Psycho-Oncology of Aging and Cancer research laboratories in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, my research focuses on three main areas:

  • Improving the accuracy of depression assessment in oncology
  • Psychotherapeutic intervention development for individuals with cancer (with a focus on supportive care and older adults)
  • Enhancing the reach of existing mental health interventions to increase access to evidence-based care in cancer.

I am currently leading two psychotherapy studies funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). One focuses on training homecare nurses to deliver brief meaning-centered psychotherapy to homebound adults with advanced cancer and other medical conditions. The other study is being conducted within the survivorship clinics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). It is exploring brief behavioral activation for depression in older adult cancer survivors.

I am a member of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society, American Psychological Association, Society of Behavioral Medicine, European Association of Palliative Care, International Society of Geriatric Oncology, and Gerontological Society of America.

Disclosures

Members of the MSK Community often work with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology, and life sciences companies, and other organizations outside of MSK, to find safe and effective cancer treatments, to improve patient care, and to educate the health care community. These activities outside of MSK further our mission, provide productive collaborations, and promote the practical application of scientific discoveries.

MSK requires doctors, faculty members, and leaders to report (“disclose”) the relationships and financial interests they have with external entities. As a commitment to transparency with our community, we make that information available to the public. Not all disclosed interests and relationships present conflicts of interest. MSK reviews all disclosed interests and relationships to assess whether a conflict of interest exists and whether formal COI management is needed.
