I am a nurse practitioner (NP), who has worked with people diagnosed with breast cancer for more than two decades. I see patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Westchester.
At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), I am part of the RISE (Risk Assessment, Imaging, Surveillance, and Education) Program. RISE is a screening program for people at increased risk of breast cancer. As a member of the RISE team, I work with many experts from MSK’s breast cancer team. This includes surgeons, medical oncologists, and radiologists.
Based on several factors, our experts decide if you’re at increased risk for breast cancer and work on a long-term surveillance plan for you. Surveillance is watching or monitoring a person who does not require immediate treatment. I work to educate our patients about their risks for breast cancer and support them during surveillance.
Before I became a nurse, I was a clinical research assistant who studied breast cancer and immunity as part of a National Institutes of Health grant. During this time, I enjoyed interacting with people who were receiving treatment for breast cancer. I realized that I had the knowledge and the passion to teach, comfort, and reassure patients during their time of need. I have been able to continue providing that care through screening and treatment for people with breast cancer over the years.
I am a member of the Oncology Nursing Society and The Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group. I attend national breast cancer conferences and I’m a former speaker and trainer for breast clinical skills for the American Cancer Society. I enjoy participating in community events and have presented for the Susan G. Komen foundation.
