Current Research Interest
Dr. Derkach’s methodological research focuses on developing new statistical methods that integrate high dimensional molecular and genetic data to detect associations with disease. He is particularly interested in statistical methodologies for high dimensional mediation analysis. Mediation analysis has become a commonly used tool in epidemiologic studies. Dr. Derkach proposes novel methods that can handle some of the practical complexities of the large, complex datasets used by modern scientists. His methodological updates to mediation analysis can better handle “big data” and show that the resulting inference can be used to improve risk prediction and discrimination of clinical outcomes. He also collaborates with clinical researchers in the Leukemia Service and the Myeloma Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering to design and analyze prospective and retrospective studies.
