I am the head of the Department of Medical Physics’ Diagnostic X-Ray Quality Assurance Laboratory section, which is responsible for the quality assurance of all x-ray units, ultrasound equipment, and peripheral systems throughout our main campus and regional facilities.
I am a diplomate of the American Board of Radiology, certified in both diagnostic physics and nuclear medicine physics. I earned an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Istanbul Technical University and a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Bogazici University, both in Turkey. I joined Memorial Sloan Kettering in 1995 as a postdoctoral fellow after completing a doctorate in medical engineering and physics at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
My postdoctoral research focused on positron emission tomography (PET), a type of imaging that is used to obtain functional information. Later, my work led to the incorporation of functional information into external-beam radiation treatment planning, augmenting the anatomical information acquired from computed tomography (CT) scans. My current research interests include dosimetric comparison of CT scanners and investigation of x-ray tube life.
