Dr. Fiyinfolu Balogun uses advanced therapies and targeted trials to treat gastrointestinal (GI) cancers at MSK, focusing on colorectal and pancreatic cancers.
Hi, I'm Dr. Fiyinfolu Balogun, a GI medical oncologist and clinical investigator at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Growing up in Nigeria, I saw firsthand through my father, a general practitioner, the power of long-term patient relationships. That early experience inspired me to pursue medical oncology, a specialty that allows me to develop long-term relationships as I care for people with cancer.
I specialize in providing chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy for people with gastrointestinal cancers, and I focus especially on colorectal and pancreatic cancers.
My research focuses on populations that have historically been underrepresented in research, both here in the U.S. and around the world. I study how biological differences between different populations, often separated by geography and socioeconomic factors, can influence how cancer behaves.
These differences matter, especially when it comes to treatment. When we understand these genetic details, we can tailor the order and type of treatments, so each person gets the right care at the right time.
At MSK, our growing understanding of cancer genetics is constantly improving how we treat cancer.
While I concentrate largely on treating disease with precision, I also place great value on building strong, meaningful relationships with my patients. We’ll face this together, and it’s truly an honor to be part of your care.
