Dr. Louise Catherine Connell treats gastrointestinal (GI) cancers at MSK, including colon, rectal and appendiceal, using innovative chemo and immunotherapies.

When I was training in Ireland to be a doctor, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a terrible blow, and I saw firsthand the importance of getting excellent medical care. I’m grateful she is doing well, and I’m committed to caring for all of my patients like her doctors cared for her.

Hi, I'm Dr. Louise Catherine Connell, and I treat gastrointestinal cancers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. I specialize in caring for patients with colorectal cancer and cancer of the bile ducts.

At MSK, we offer innovative treatments that may not be available anywhere else. For example, we’re experts in a special technique for patients whose colorectal cancer has spread to the liver. Many times, that is considered inoperable. But at MSK, we can implant a small pump that delivers chemotherapy directly to the tumor, with the goal of shrinking it until it’s small enough to be removed.

In addition to treating patients, I’m also a researcher and a mentor. I’m driven to find the next new treatment and to train the next generation, so that more cancer patients around the world can benefit from the work being done here at MSK.

At the same time, your care is always personal to me. I want you to feel comfortable raising any question or concern, because I remember what it’s like to put your faith in your doctor. For me, it is a privilege to help you.
