Scientific discovery and compassionate patient care create a powerful foundation for healing. In the rapidly evolving field of gastrointestinal oncology, this connection transforms how we approach cancer treatment.

Hi, I'm Dr. Samuel Cytryn, a gastrointestinal medical oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and I specialize in treating upper GI cancers, specifically esophageal and stomach cancer.

Central to everything I do is getting to know each patient as an individual. While I bring my expertise in medicine, you are the expert in your own life—defining your priorities, and your goals. Understanding who you are and how you define a meaningful life allows me to align treatment recommendations with what's most important to you.

The treatment landscape for upper GI cancers has advanced dramatically with the introduction of immunotherapy and targeted treatments. My research in this field allows us to move beyond traditional chemotherapy toward truly personalized approaches– targeting specific tumor characteristics and fighting cancer with the body’s own immune system.

I’m deeply committed to advancing new treatments and combination therapies that offer better outcomes for patients with esophageal and stomach cancers. Through evidence-driven clinical trials, we explore innovative strategies to enhance treatment response, sustain long-term disease control, and ultimately improve each person's chance for a cure.

I’m privileged to work alongside experts who continuously raise the standard of care. What drives each of us at MSK is meaningful connection with our patients. Together, we'll navigate your treatment journey with a balance of cutting-edge medicine and deeply personalized care.
