Filemon Dela Cruz, MD
Pediatric Hematologist-Oncologist
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.

About Me
- Assistant Attending Pediatrician
I am a pediatric oncologist who cares for children with sarcomas, including Ewing sarcoma, osteosarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, and desmoplastic small round cell tumors.
I am also actively involved in the Pediatric Translational Medicine Program we are developing at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Through this program, we use new technologies to gather information about the biology and genetics of each patient’s tumor. That information helps guide treatment decisions, and we can use it to create new treatments that specifically target an individual’s cancer. Our goal is not only to cure more children, teens, and young adults but to improve our patients’ quality of life by reducing the side effects that traditional treatments can cause.

I work with research groups at MSK and others across the nation (through the Children’s Oncology Group) to develop and use laboratory models to learn more about the biology of various cancers. These models are genetic replicas of a patient’s tumor. They allow us to identify and test new treatments without having to involve the patient. I am also involved in leading clinical trials of new treatments for cancer, particularly pediatric sarcomas.
The diagnosis and treatment of cancer can create an unimaginably difficult journey for children, teens, and young adults, as well as their parents and caregivers. I continue to be inspired by the relationships among these families as they face these challenges together. It is my job to make sure they know that we are here to guide them through treatment, and that we will provide world-class care to achieve the best possible outcome.
A pediatric hematologist-oncologist is a doctor who treats cancers and blood diseases in children, adolescents and young adults.
