Get to Know Me

I am a urologic surgeon specializing in male sexual and reproductive health.

At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), I often see men with active cancer or a history of cancer. We meet before and after treatment to address its effects on sexual function and fertility and, when relevant, to discuss available medical and/or surgical interventions that can alleviate problems related to sex and fertility. I also provide sexual and reproductive healthcare to men who have never been diagnosed with cancer.

This provider is part of a team that was ranked #1 in the nation for Urology Cancer Care this year by U.S. News & World Report.

In collaboration with MSK’s sexual and reproductive medicine team, I manage a variety of conditions, such as erectile dysfunction, ejaculation and orgasm disorders, low testosterone, male infertility, varicocele, and Peyronie’s disease. The surgeries that I perform include microsurgical testicular sperm extraction pre- and post-cancer treatment, penile prosthesis, microsurgical varicocelectomies, hydrocelectomies, penile plication, circumcisions, vasectomies, and vasectomy reversals. I also have expertise in penile doppler ultrasound as a diagnostic tool for evaluating erectile dysfunction and intralesional injection therapy for men with Peyronie’s disease.

My goal is to improve my patients’ health and quality of life by using the most effective treatments available, tailored to their specific needs and priorities. I strive to help patients make the best decisions about their care by clearly presenting the relevant medical information, discussing treatment options and expectations, and addressing all their concerns with compassion.

I completed three years of clinical fellowship training in urology, spending one year at the University of Illinois at Chicago and two years at MSK. Additionally, I have nearly a decade of clinical experience as an attending urologist in my native country of Chile. My clinical training and experience dovetails with research; I have been involved in academic research throughout my career and served as a research fellow for two years in the Department of Urology at the University of Minnesota. The clinical research I am currently conducting focuses on:

  • Defining comorbidity profile factors associated with erectile function recovery after radical pelvic surgery,
  • assessing the safety of testosterone therapy in men with prostate cancer,
  • identifying factors associated with penile curvature improvement in men with Peyronie’s disease,
  • the psychological impact of Peyronie’s disease,
  • evaluating factors associated with sexual dysfunction and low testosterone in survivors of testicular cancer,
  • fertility preservation in men with testicular cancer, and
  • predictors of fertility preservation in men after oncological treatment.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife and children, exploring New York, and traveling.
