Get to Know Me

I am a pediatric oncologist on the MSK Kids team who specializes in the care of children, adolescents, and young adults with sarcoma. I have additional expertise in the treatment of bone tumors such as osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma. I see patients at Memorial Hospital in New York City.

I apply computational biology tools to analyze the specific genetic features of individual tumors to match patients with personalized therapies. This approach is called precision oncology.

I apply my expertise in biomedical informatics both to the care of patients and for conducting research. Just as we strive to understand the genetic composition of each individual tumor, it is even more important to understand each child and family as they navigate this challenging journey. Getting to know each patient in an individualized way allows me to be their strongest advocate and ensures that together we create the most effective treatment approach.

My research is focused on understanding the genetic differences within tumor cells and uncovering new molecular targets to develop more potent combination treatments. My colleagues and I study gene expression to identify master regulators, which are convergent points driving the way tumor cells regulate gene expression. By identifying tumor master regulators and understanding how they change as tumors spread or behave in response to treatment, we can identify novel therapies to target them. This work spans not only sarcomas, but other pediatric solid tumors, brain tumors, and blood cancers that are challenging to cure.

I chose pediatric oncology as a career because of the intimate, lifelong relationships that I build with my patients and their families. It is an honor every day to witness the resilience of the children we treat, and an immense privilege to work with the MSK Kids team to advance the care of pediatric cancer. I strive not only to improve clinical outcomes, but also to improve the experience and quality of life for children with cancer.

Disclosures

Members of the MSK Community often work with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology, and life sciences companies, and other organizations outside of MSK, to find safe and effective cancer treatments, to improve patient care, and to educate the health care community. These activities outside of MSK further our mission, provide productive collaborations, and promote the practical application of scientific discoveries.

MSK requires doctors, faculty members, and leaders to report (“disclose”) the relationships and financial interests they have with external entities. As a commitment to transparency with our community, we make that information available to the public. Not all disclosed interests and relationships present conflicts of interest. MSK reviews all disclosed interests and relationships to assess whether a conflict of interest exists and whether formal COI management is needed.
