Get to Know Me

I am a radiation oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). I care for people with lung cancer and gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, as well as patients with metastatic disease and bladder cancer.

I see patients at MSK Commack on Long Island and at the New York Proton Center in New York City. My goal is to match each person with the safest, most effective radiation therapy plan—whether that’s proton therapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), or another modern technique.

Many people I meet ask about their options and if radiation therapy will affect their breathing or digestion. They also want to know what side effects they should expect and how they can prevent them.

I take the time to answer these questions in clear, simple language. I also work closely with surgeons, medical oncologists, and other specialists so every patient gets a coordinated plan that fits their life and goals.

My clinical expertise includes delivering highly focused radiation to tumors that sit close to sensitive organs such as ultra-central lung tumors. These are types of lung tumors that are very close to important structures in the chest, which are at higher risk of side effects and damage from radiation therapy. For these types of tumors, I consider using proton therapy which can better spare healthy tissue. I rely on advanced imaging and careful planning to keep treatments precise and gentle.

Research is an important part of my work. I co-lead an international group of more than 30 centers working to make SBRT for ultra-central lung tumors safer and more effective. I also help design clinical trials that combine radiation with immunotherapy and analyze blood and tumor samples to understand how treatment changes the immune system.

Immunotherapy is a treatment that helps the body’s own immune system attack cancer. I study immune checkpoint blockade, which is a type of immunotherapy that lifts brakes on immune cells. This helps them better recognize and destroy tumors. I work closely with my medical oncology colleagues to improve how radiation and immunotherapy can be combined in both clinical care and trials.

Our goal is to personalize radiation so patients gain the most benefit with the fewest side effects — and to harness the immune system so radiation can be even more effective.

I completed my radiation oncology residency at MSK and served as Chief Resident, before joining as faculty. During medical school at the University of Michigan, I received a national research fellowship from Alpha Omega Alpha and graduated with Distinction in Research.

When I’m not working, I enjoy going to the park with my family and watching my favorite sports teams with friends and family.
