Get to Know Me
I am a medical oncologist who specializes in treating gynecologic cancers such as ovarian cancer, uterine (endometrial) cancer, and cervical cancer. My expertise is in medical treatments such as chemotherapy and immunotherapy—a type of treatment that harnesses the body’s immune system to target cancers.
I believe that good communication is the foundation of trust between a patient and their doctor. Communication involves talking and listening. I place a lot of importance on listening to my patients’ concerns, including their goals, worries, and what matters most to them. I ensure those concerns are prioritized when we discuss a care plan together. I want to make sure that every patient leaves my office feeling that they have been heard, that they are cared for, and that the path forward is clear.
I also believe in strong teamwork. At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), I am privileged to work as part of an exceptional multidisciplinary team of physicians who are focused on delivering world-class care to their patients. Within the Gynecologic Medical Oncology department, I am fortunate to have superb mentors and colleagues who share the same goals as me.
I chose a career in medical oncology because it combines a strong tradition in basic science and clinical trials with a personal approach to each patient, incorporating everything from their molecular (lab) test results to their expectations from cancer treatment. It has been a privilege to care for patients both in my native country, Ireland, and in the United States.
My research interests include early-stage clinical trials, the use of liquid biopsy (blood tests) in cancer diagnosis, and the role of the microbiome (the bacteria in our gut) in influencing response to cancer treatments like immunotherapy. My research in these areas has sparked my interest in personalized treatments for every patient based on the molecular (lab) findings.
I'm a gynecologic medical oncologist, which is a cancer doctor who specializes in gynecologic (GY-neh-kuh-LAH-jik) cancers. This includes cervical, fallopian tube, ovarian, uterine (endometrial), vaginal, and vulvar cancers.
