Get to Know Me

I am a board-certified medical oncologist who specializes in treating men with prostate cancer, particularly those with metastatic disease (disease that has spread to distant organs) or those who are at a high risk for developing metastatic disease. I am the Prostate Cancer Section Head, which means I lead a group of experts at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) who are dedicated to researching and treating this disease.

Much of my research focuses on drugs that can deliver radioactive molecules targeted specifically to prostate cancer cells or to the distant areas where the cancer spreads. These drugs can be used alone or in combination with other anti-cancer treatments. This research represents a team effort between medical oncologists, nuclear medicine doctors, and radiologists to bring these novel and exciting drugs to the people with prostate cancer who need them.

This provider is part of a team that was ranked #1 in the nation for Urology Cancer Care this year by U.S. News & World Report.

I am also interested in developing new ways to image prostate cancer using unique, prostate cancer-specific positron emission tomography (PET) scans and other new imaging methods. This type of imaging provides insight into where the prostate cancer is located and also informs us about its biology. We can then use this information to more precisely and personally tailor treatments to a person’s disease.

Additionally, I have an interest in developing new ways to deliver care to people with cancer. To that end, I am one of the principal investigators of MSK’s telehealth research center, MATCHES, which stands for “Making Telehealth Delivery of Cancer Care at Home Effective and Safe.” In August of 2022, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) awarded MSK a grant to create this telehealth research center. Our goal for the center, which is part of the White House’s Cancer Moonshot Program, is to establish best practices for telehealth in cancer care. Through MATCHES, I hope to discover new ways to incorporate telehealth into care delivery patterns for people with cancer and assess how those patterns impact health outcomes and patient satisfaction.

A significant portion of my time is also dedicated to:

  • Reducing barriers that patients face in order to participate in clinical trials
  • Improving the process of drug development

I am a Special Advisor at the NCI. I am also the Co-Director of a new multi-agency unit of the NCI called the Clinical Trials Innovation Unit. This unit brings together the expertise of the NCI, the FDA, and scientists to develop innovative solutions intended to simplify and streamline clinical trials to improve their speed, ease of use, and efficiency.

I'm a genitourinary (GU) medical oncologist, which is a cancer doctor who specializes in genitourinary (jeh-nih-toh-YOOR-ih-nayr-ee) cancers. This includes bladder, kidney, penis, prostate, and testicular cancers.
