Get to Know Me

I am a gastroenterologist specializing in prevention, early detection, and disease monitoring across a spectrum of gastrointestinal cancers, with a special focus in stomach cancer and hereditary cancer syndromes. I care for patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal (GI) problems and perform a variety of endoscopic procedures including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy, and feeding tube placement. I have a particular interest in developing new approaches for improving cancer detection.

I am dedicated to providing each patient I see with care that is not only personalized and tailored to their individual needs, but also rooted in the most cutting-edge research and knowledge in the field to ensure that they get the best possible care. Seeing my own family members affected by GI cancers inspired me to pursue gastroenterology from a young age.

I have been actively involved in clinical and epidemiological research and have published on a variety of topics related to screening and outcomes in stomach, esophageal, and colorectal cancer. I collaborate with colleagues across many disciplines including oncology, surgery, pathology, epidemiology, and biostatistics to advance our understanding of these diseases.

I am committed to ensuring that patients at high risk for gastrointestinal cancers get access to the comprehensive care they need. In particular, my research helps to expand our understanding of potential risk factors for stomach cancer and the role of targeted screening and early detection tools in caring for individuals who are at increased risk for this malignancy. I have used simulation modeling to better understand the timing of preventative surgery for hereditary diffuse gastric cancer and the use of biomarkers for guiding treatment in gastrointestinal cancers. My research has also focused on the epidemiology of stomach cancer, trying to understand which individuals may be at increased risk and may warrant screening and surveillance.

My strong research background empowers me to have the comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge I need to fulfill my primary goal — which is to provide excellent care for my patients. I greatly value the privilege of helping to care for those with gastrointestinal problems in the Memorial Sloan Kettering community. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, trying new foods (either through cooking new recipes or exploring new restaurants in New York City), and spending time with my family.

Disclosures

Members of the MSK Community often work with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology, and life sciences companies, and other organizations outside of MSK, to find safe and effective cancer treatments, to improve patient care, and to educate the health care community. These activities outside of MSK further our mission, provide productive collaborations, and promote the practical application of scientific discoveries.

As a commitment to transparency with our community, we make that information available to the public. Not all disclosed interests and relationships present conflicts of interest. MSK reviews all disclosed interests and relationships to assess whether a conflict of interest exists and whether formal COI management is needed.
