Every person who comes to Memorial Sloan Kettering for leukemia treatment receives compassionate, personalized care from our expert disease management team. Although each patient has a primary doctor who coordinates his or her care, your team will include other doctors, as well as nurses and other specialists whose sole focus is leukemia.

How We Care for You
  • We personalize your treatment using genetic information we obtained about your condition during diagnosis.
  • We are constantly testing new ways to fight leukemia. This means that patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering have access to clinical trials of new treatment options that are not available at most other hospitals.
  • Our bone marrow transplant program has one of the highest one-year survival rates in the nation.
  • Our doctors focus on your quality of life throughout your treatment, making sure you get the support you need to feel cared for, safe, and whole.

Specialists from all areas of leukemia care work together to design a treatment plan especially for you. Bringing together experts in chemotherapy, immunotherapy, bone marrow transplantation, and quality-of-life issues helps us choose the combination of therapies that will most effectively treat the leukemia and provide you with the best outcome possible.

Improving Outcomes though Research

We are continually exploring new ways to improve the lives of patients with leukemia. And because we are engaged in research related to all aspects of care, your care team is aware of the latest scientific discoveries and medical advances.

Over the years, our patients have benefited from our leadership in the following areas:

  • the genetic basis of leukemia
  • therapies designed to target those genetic abnormalities
  • immunotherapies that harness the power of the immune system to fight cancer
  • human monoclonal antibodies to target cancer cells and limit side effects

Treatment for Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia
For people with ALL, our doctors may recommend chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or bone marrow transplantation, depending on the subtype of the disease.

Treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Our doctors may recommend chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or bone marrow/hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for people diagnosed with AML.

Treatment for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
For people with CLL, our doctors are experts in designing treatment plans to alleviate symptoms by inducing disease remission or slowing disease progression.

Treatment for Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
Our doctors pioneered the standard approaches for treating CML, and depending on the stage of your disease may recommend imatinib, nilotinib, dasatinib, or other targeted therapies.
