The Department of Radiology offers a specialized four-year training program for international medical graduates who are (IMGs) seeking eligibility for American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification.
In collaboration with the ABR, the Alternate Pathway offers up to four years of advanced clinical fellowship training across its subspecialty divisions, with the option for participants to be appointed as instructor-level faculty after year two.
Alternate Pathway trainees can choose a training path based on their own interests and goals. The program is designed to develop radiologists’ expertise in oncologic imaging, with fellowship training and experience offered in the following subspecialties:
IMGs interested in Interventional Radiology / Diagnostic Radiology (IR/DR) certification should complete a five-year program with two of those five years in a program within the Interventional Radiology Service.
We strive to accommodate your preferences. However, due to the limited number of training positions and because many of our fellowships recruit one to two years in advance, you may be offered a four-year pathway that differs from your original request.
Applicants must demonstrate strong clinical skills, professionalism, and a commitment to academic medicine. MSK sponsors eligible candidates for H-1B (pending completion of all U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) exams), and all participants must meet New York State medical licensure requirements. Selection is highly competitive and based on a comprehensive review of application materials and virtual interviews.
Upon program completion and full compliance with ABR requirements, participants may become eligible to sit for the ABR certifying exam. Please refer to the ABR website regarding the ABR Alternate Pathway for the most up-to-date information.
