Medical Student Elective Program: How to Apply

Domestic Medical Students

Applications in VSLO are no longer being accepted for the 2025-2026 academic year. Should you be interested in applying for the 2025-2026 academic year, please reach out to medstudent@mskcc.org and we will review our elective availability.

International Medical Students

Memorial Sloan Kettering offers a limited number of clinical electives to international students each year, scheduled from January through June. The application window will open on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, and close on Friday, October 31, 2025. We kindly ask applicants for their patience, as all applications undergo a comprehensive and meticulous review. The Graduate Medical Education Office will communicate updates regarding the status of your application as the review process advances.

Applications from international candidates are not accepted through VSLO; such applicants are required to submit their applications exclusively through our official website, Embark. Applicants are strictly advised against sending unsolicited CVs or application materials directly to departments or elective directors, as doing so will result in immediate disqualification from the selection process.

The application will involve updating your personal information and selecting your preferred electives. Additionally, applicants must upload several required documents, including a Letter of Intent outlining their motivation and goals, a Dean’s Letter, at least one Letter of Recommendation, a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae, official academic transcripts, and the USMLE Step 1 score report.
