We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Functional Postdoctoral Fellow/ Senior Research Scientist in the field of functional genomics to join our research team. The successful candidate will work on translating risk loci from GWAS and sequencing studies to understand the mechanisms and modifiers of genetic risk to etiology, progression using rare variants (such as BRCA2, ATM, genes) and polygenic risk scores (PRS). The experiments planned will utilize human biospecimen from high-risk cases to generate human organoids and isogenic cell lines for testing hallmarks of carcinogenesis.
The cancer types we intend to study are breast, pancreas and lymphoma.
Key Responsibilities:
➤ Work independently and in a team environment to design, execute, and analyze functional genomics experiments to understand the mechanisms and modifiers of genetic risk to etiology and progression.
➤ Utilize GWAS and sequencing data to identify relevant risk loci and variants, and develop strategies to translate this information into functional experiments.
➤ Utilize human biospecimen from high-risk cases to generate human organoids and isogenic cell lines for testing carcinogenesis.
➤ Perform CRISPR-Cas9 or other genome editing and gene expression analysis to understand the impact of rare variants on gene function.
➤ Using polygenic risk scores used to predict the risk of developing cancer, identify functional modifiers of genetic risk.
➤ Develop and optimize protocols for cell culture, gene expression, and functional assays to support experimental goals.
➤ Analyze and interpret data from genomics experiments, and communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders through presentations and publications.
➤ Exhibit innovative experimental ideas such as use of single cell genomic assays to understand disease.
QUALIFICATIONS:
◆ Ph.D. in Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
◆ At least 3 years of postdoctoral or research experience in functional genomics or a related field for Senior Research Scientist
◆ OR has completed PhD for Postdoctoral Fellow with <3 years of postdoctoral experience.
◆ Strong expertise in GWAS and sequencing data analysis, gene expression analysis, reporter assays, Multiplex assays of variant effect (MAVE), and CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing.
◆ Experience with generating and analyzing human organoids and isogenic cell lines is highly desirable.
◆ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
◆ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
◆ Strong track record of scientific productivity, including publications in peer-reviewed journals.
◆ Evidence of high quality original publication record in the areas described above.
