Get to Know Me

I am a medical oncologist and a laboratory scientist. As a member of the Genitourinary Oncology Service, I specialize in treating cancers of the prostate, bladder, kidney, testis, and other related cancers.

This provider is part of a team that was ranked #1 in the nation for Urology Cancer Care this year by U.S. News & World Report.

I treat my patients with chemotherapy, targeted therapies, immunotherapy, or combinations of these drugs. At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), I work with other cancer experts, including surgeons and radiation oncologists, to develop an individual treatment plan for each patient.

I am very involved in clinical trials, particularly those of targeted drugs known as kinase inhibitors, which block pathways inside cancer cells that cause the cells to grow or spread. One area of focus in my research is studying patients who are known as extraordinary responders. These are people with difficult-to-treat cancers who are found to respond exceptionally well to a new drug, even though that drug does not work in most people with the same disease.

My laboratory in the Human Oncology and Pathogenesis Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering completed the first whole-genome analysis of a patient with bladder cancer. This patient had a complete and durable response to a novel targeted drug that was effective in only a small minority of patients. By performing this analysis, we were able to determine what was genetically unique about this patient’s tumor. We are now testing the same drug in other patients whose tumors have a similar genetic profile.

As the Director of the Marie-Josée and Henry R. Kravis Center for Molecular Oncology (CMO) at MSK, I also lead a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, geneticists, bioinformaticians, and laboratory scientists. The mission of the CMO is to integrate molecular and clinical information to develop therapies that are individualized to each patient’s cancer.

My colleagues and I work to make sure that all patients who come to MSK receive the best care possible, whether that means conventional or experimental therapies.

What I Do at MSK

I'm a genitourinary (GU) medical oncologist, which is a cancer doctor who specializes in genitourinary (jeh-nih-toh-YOOR-ih-nayr-ee) cancers. This includes bladder, kidney, penis, prostate, and testicular cancers.

Disclosures

Members of the MSK Community often work with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology, and life sciences companies, and other organizations outside of MSK, to find safe and effective cancer treatments, to improve patient care, and to educate the health care community. These activities outside of MSK further our mission, provide productive collaborations, and promote the practical application of scientific discoveries.

MSK requires doctors, faculty members, and leaders to report (“disclose”) the relationships and financial interests they have with external entities. As a commitment to transparency with our community, we make that information available to the public. Not all disclosed interests and relationships present conflicts of interest. MSK reviews all disclosed interests and relationships to assess whether a conflict of interest exists and whether formal COI management is needed.
