Research Programs
SKI’s research enterprise is organized into nine programs that encompass the diversity of modern biomedical sciences. SKI investigators pursue research that spans the full spectrum of discovery, from basic science to preclinical, translational, and postclinical research.
Special Funding Initiatives
Several generous philanthropic gifts have enabled SKI investigators to pursue innovative research directed at solving some of the most difficult problems in fundamental biology and cancer science. Learn more about them below:
-
Kravis Cancer Ecosystems Project
Supporting ambitious pre-clinical research at MSK to solve the most pressing problems in cancer care using a systems-level approach. -
The Starr Foundation Program for Discovery Science
Accelerates high-impact cancer research, empowering scientists to uncover cancer’s fundamental biology and drive breakthrough treatments. -
Collaborative Research Centers
Researchers from SKI and Memorial Hospital join forces in 23 established Collaborative Research Centers that support innovative research that spans disciplines. -
The Alan and Sandra Gerry Metastasis and Tumor Ecosystems Center Funding Opportunities
Facilitating research efforts on the causes, mechanisms, and treatments of metastasis for investigators with a proven record of progress in metastasis research investigators newly attracted to this area of research. -
EIO Scholars Program
The EIO Center supports comprehensive career development program to support trainees engaged in laboratory training in the areas of immuno-oncology (IO), tumor microenvironment (TME), microbe-cancer interactions, and related areas.
The Marie-Josée and Henry R. Kravis Cancer Ecosystems Project: Leading the Next Revolution in Cancer Research
Video DetailsCore Facilities and Resources
Scientists working in SKI labs have access to extensive technological support through the institute’s many core facilities. The cores perform vital services for our scientists and permit even small labs to do big science.
SKI has its own cryo-electron microscope (a Titan Krios with a Gatan K3 Summit detector), a Multiplexed Ion Beam Imaging (MIBI) platform, tools for intravital imaging, and a GMP-grade cell manufacturing facility. We also offer extensive support services for technology development.
Research Collaborations
Collaborative science is a hallmark of SKI’s approach. The close proximity of SKI to a world-class cancer hospital means that laboratory investigators and clinicians can easily collaborate to speed translational discoveries. SKI investigators also collaborate with their peers at other institutions.
